The project: Once a year St Andrew’s Cathedral School hosts a showcase of musical talents from the students (year 7-12). Each showcase takes on a different theme and this year they adopted the theme of ‘Illuminate.’
One of the main ideas behind the theme was a connection to the notion of Christ’s light being projected into the lives of the students. In addition, one of the main musical compositions in the showcase was thematically based around the idea of light.
The idea: My design thinking for this project began with looking at the idea of how light historically has been communicated through design. The challenge was not to think too literally but rather explore ideas in a conceptual and abstract space.
Using ideas from famous poster art and black and white photography of the students I developed various concepts to communicate the idea of illumination in a musically inspired setting.
